Established in 2004, Mountain’s Edge is a master-planned community in the Southwest part of Las Vegas. Inspired by the surrounding Spring Mountains, the developers of Mountain’s Edge left much of the natural landscape and geography to integrate into the community, like Exploration Peak at the Buffalo entrance.
Home to over 12,000 households, Mountains Edge offers more than 50 unique neighborhoods and four large parks, providing residents with a dog park, splash pads, playgrounds, baseball fields, hiking trails, basketball courts, fitness parks, miles of interconnected walking and biking trails, and more throughout the 3,500-acre community.

Location and Geography of Mountain’s Edge
Mountain’s Edge lives up to its name, nestled into the Spring Mountains to the South and West while bordering Blue Diamond Road to the North.
The community is approximately 11 miles southwest of the Las Vegas Strip and 8 miles northwest of the M Resort Spa Casino. Entrances to Mountain’s Edge are on Rainbow, Buffalo, Cimarron, Durango, Fort Apache, and Cactus to the East.
Residents of Mountain’s Edge enjoy convenient access to major highways, with the 215 Beltway 3 miles to the North and the I-15 freeway approximately 3.5 miles to the East.
Typical drive times from Mountain’s Edge are:
- Las Vegas Strip: 11 miles, with an estimated drive time of 17 minutes (depending on traffic)
- Downtown Summerlin: 13 miles, with an estimated drive time of 17 minutes
- The District: 15 miles, with an estimated drive time of 20 minutes
- Harry Reid Airport: about 11 miles, with an estimated drive time of 16 minutes
- Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area: 17 miles, with an estimated drive time of 22 minutes
Before 2014, the train tracks running along Rainbow Blvd prevented Cactus from connecting between Jones and Rainbow. Once completed, the cactus overpass gave residents of Mountains Edge a connection to Southern Highlands—and their amenities—plus a quicker drive to the 15-freeway.
Mountain’s Edge Parks
As you drive through the main entrance of Mountains Edge on Buffalo, it’s common to see residents making the 0.9-mile out-and-back hike up the Exploration Peak Trail. Up top, you can enjoy 360-degree views of the Las Vegas Valley, the Strip, and Mountain’s Edge.
At the base of the hiking trail is the 80-acre Exploration Peak Park, one of four regional parks in Mountain’s Edge.
Mountain’s Edge developers focused on an active lifestyle community and delivered. But, besides a few neighborhoods like Yellowstone, Monterey Ranch, and Jasmine Falls, most Mountain’s Edge residents don’t have access to a community pool—and there are no Tennis or Pickleball courts.
The major parks in the community are:
- Exploration Peak Park: 80 acres featuring a playground, picnic areas, volleyball, horseshoes, large grass fields, walking trails, restrooms, and Exploration Peak Hiking Trail.
- Mountain’s Edge Regional Park: 250 acres with 41 acres completed; Mountain’s Edge Regional Park features recreation and practice walls for several sports, two large picnic pavilions, soccer fields, a playground with climbing features, a fitness area, and the first 90-foot baseball diamond fourplex in the Las Vegas Valley.
- Nathaniel Jones Park: 20 acres featuring a dog park, playground, walking trails, and a large grass field.
- Paiute Park: 15 acres with two sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, a large multi-sport grass field, restrooms, and a playground.
Shopping centers and restaurants near Mountain’s Edge
For over a decade, original residents of Mountain’s edge lacked a nearby grocery store and limited fast food options.
Finally, Mountain’s Edge Marketplace began construction in 2016 on Blue Diamond and Buffalo. The center introduced an Albertson’s and several food options to residents, including the award-winning Locale Italian Kitchen and Starbucks. The area has grown rapidly since, with new retail centers sprouting up along Blue Diamond and within the community.

Mountain’s Edge Marketplace is the primary retail center for the Mountain’s Edge community. So much so, the Mountain’s Edge homeowners association moved from its previous location across Blue Diamond.

Blue Diamond Retail Center (Blue Diamond & Durango)
The yet-to-be-completed center currently features Circle K, Arby’s, Smile Vegas Dental, and Angel Face Preschool & Childcare.
The center has a planned Scooters Coffee and a car wash, with no groundbreaking date released.
Blue Diamond and El Capitan
The Blue Diamond and El Capitan center started with a PT’s gold, the second PT’s in the area, later expanding in 2020 with a Merryhill School and 7-11, followed by a Dentist in 2022 and a Dunkin Donuts in 2023.
Cactus Shops (Rainbow & Cactus)
In 2020, Mountain’s Edge received a much-needed gas station on the Northwest corner of Rainbow and Cactus. Tenants in Cactus Shops include:

Cactus Plaza is the oldest retail center in Mountains Edge. Home to The Bounty bar and The Edge cafe, the center remains partially constructed, with plenty of space for exciting new stores. The Bounty bar has lasted the test of time but The Edge is the third restaurant in the center.
Mountain’s Edge & Rainbow center
An exciting restaurant addition to Mountain’s Edge arrived in 2021 with a Village Pub. The first Village Pub opened in Las Vegas in 1968. Today, the owners have 12 pubs across the Valley and own Ellis Island Casino & Brewery.
The Mountain’s Edge location divided the restaurant into a non-smoking restaurant and a bar so patrons can enjoy a meal without cigarette smoke.
A Roam n’ Stop gas station sits on the Southeast corner next to Village Pub.
Future developments around Mountain’s Edge
Southwest Las Vegas has experienced rapid growth in new homes and commercial retail centers.
Several projects along Blue Diamond will open in 2023, providing more restaurants and fast food to the area, including a retail center at Rainbow and Blue Diamond, Rainbow and Richmar, and Cactus and Rainbow.

- The Bend: An office and retail mixed-use development. Future tenants of The Bend are Aces and Ales, Freed’s Dessert Shop, Union Biscuit, Tacos & Beer, Italian Graffiti Osteria, Mothership Coffee Roasters, Baguette Cafe, Butcher & Thief, Dinette Luncheonette, and Electric Pickle a unique bar and restaurant with nine pickleball courts, cornhole, and bocce ball. The Bend is on Durango and Sunset.
- Uncommons: A mixed-use development with offices, restaurants, and residences. Current and future tenants of Uncommons include: Urth Caffe, Teaspoon Boba, SunLife Organics, Soulbelly, Smitten Ice Cream, Proper Sandwich Company, Saint Honore, Salt & Straw, Mercadito, Mizunara, Lamill Coffee, Amari, Bar Oysterette, Kavos Coastal Greek Grill, Morgan Stanley, Draft Kings, CBRE. Uncommons is at Durango and the 215-Beltway.
- Blue Diamond & Rainbow: A neighborhood retail center constructed in 2023. Future tenants include Chick Filet, Whidbey’s, America First Credit Union, ToGos, Freddy’s Robertos, Diamond Dolphins Swim School, and a Dentist’s Office.

The expansive community of Mountains Edge is home to five public schools and boasts one private school along its borders.

The Erie Pedestrian Bridge crosses the train tracks and provides students who live in Mountain’s Edge with a safe walk from Desert Oasis. In 2022, the city added a crosswalk with warning lights for bridge crossers.
Real Estate Market in Mountain’s Edge
Unlike the centrally located Summerlin with endless amenities, Mountain’s Edge has historically been a more secluded community. Due to its location, homes are more affordable than in many popular communities across the Valley.
But, as more development expands, living in the Southwest becomes more appealing, and the 10 to 12-minute drive to the 215 becomes less relevant, helping home values to rise.

With over 50 unique neighborhoods in Mountain’s Edge, properties range from Townhomes to luxury Toll Brothers homes. Although track home luxury exists, the community does not have a custom luxury home neighborhood.

Many communities in the Las Vegas Valley broke ground in the early 2000s, building a large population of homes until the housing market downturn in 2008.
Mountain’s Edge is no exception, with many homes built between 2006 and 2007. Because of this, homes have changed multiple owners, styles, and upgrades allowing home shoppers to tailor their search to remodeled homes or a clean slate to customize their own.
